Overview
We personally fell in love with Puerto Escondido, or in short – Puerto. Although it took us a few days to get the hang of it, it became very clear why many people adore this place and choose to settle there for the long term even.

If you are into surfing or want to learn, this is a great place for it. This beach town is known to be a famous surfing spot due to the large waves and surfing community that has evolved here with time. Despite that, we heard several people saying that the local surfers are not very welcoming to the foreign surfers, especially in those hot surf spots. Just so you know.

Besides that, you will find great food (one of the best culinary spots we encountered in Mexico), open-minded people, and a daily sunset routine where everybody goes to view the gorgeous skyline.

Only a few years back it wasn’t that famous and probably much quieter, but lately, the rumor has spread and tourists from all over rush here to experience one of the best destinations Mexico has to offer.
Co-Works
The co-work scene in Puerto is not well developed yet. Part of it is probably due to the unstable internet connection in most of the town. Once the infrastructure improves we are sure more nomads will find themselves here.

Selina chain is present, and more or less the only proper co-work around at the moment. Working from cafes is what most people do, but is surely not our go-to solution. Luckily we were able to find a lovely apartment complex whose owner really tries to attract digital nomads and has invested in strong Internet connection, and even freed up the top floor for tables to use for work, and to enjoy a great view. It is called Casa Puerto Bonito, check it out.

Selina

Selina is a part of a well known hospitality chain that provides working space solutions as well. We personally didn’t try to work from it in Puerto but they sure have high standards (and prices too) when it comes to internet, comfort, and rooms.

Nomad Friendly Cafe's

Amarisa Pasteles Pan Y Cafe

A coffee shop in La Punta that offers a great breakfast and a variety of freshly baked bread, friendly staff, and the Internet is mostly stable. Mid-day it gets full but is very pleasant in mornings and afternoons.

Cafe Nduva Punta

A small coffee shop that sits on the main street of La Punta, the closest that it gets to the shoreline. The internet is reasonable (we experienced only a few outages), and prices lean towards the expensive side. The advantage is the great vibe and amount of friendly people that come by there every day.

Cafe Ole

Another small one in La Punta which gets full quite early, so have a plan B if you go there and try not to overstay. The breakfast is a delight!

Tamales are wonderful. It’s a corn-based dough with many different stuffing possibilities which are steamed inside a corn or banana leaf. Oaxaca state is famous for their Tamales.

Restaurants and Bars

Fish Shack La Punta

Very easy to miss it as it is positioned in a quiet alley, but please be sure to go there and try their Fish Burger (and let us know if you like it), it is literally the best dish we tried and came back for it more than a few times.

El Arbol

A diverse food quart, together with a cheap drink point, together with live music, and an awesome vibe! Can’t ask for better. Most chances you will hear about it one way or another as at times it is the main event happening in La Punta.

Chicama Peruvian Food

A very classy restaurant; it often has a queue at the entrance with people waiting to see what everybody is raving about. Not as expensive as you would expect, and the food is on another level. Try the special Tuna fish with the black crumbs, we've never had anything like it.
