Overview
For some reason, we didn’t know much about the Canary Islands before arriving. Like everyone is keeping it for themselves as a secret, and we can understand why.

There are few islands in this archipelago, the most popular ones are Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.
After a month in Gran Canaria, a mid-sized island, we found it to be a true gem for people who want to avoid the European winter.
Although it is not as nature rich or culture rich as some places we visited, something about this island hits the all right spots.

The digital nomads community is pretty strong on the island with many activities and Telegram, Slack and WhatsApp groups to keep everyone updated on what is happening.

There is a “vacation” area with lovely hotels, there is the beach, there are amazing food options, and a truly special Co-living house which made our stay even more memorable. Read about it in the Co-works section.
Co-Works
We did not explore co-work spaces as much as we could work from our co-living house, but from what we saw, there are enough co-work spaces for everyone. The style is usually more simple and straightforward, rather than fancy co-works, but that works just fine.

Casa Canaria

We can talk about this place for hours. It is a co-living house, usually accommodating around 5-7 people, with a good terrace, a living room with strong internet, few work stations, and Deborah the lovely host who makes sure you feel at home. What really made the place is the people of course, which we can only hope for a similar experience for you guys if you happen to be staying there.

Dojo Coworking

Very intimate and cozy. Not a lot of tables, friendly staff, and good internet. We can recommend it if you are looking for a 'come and get work done' place.

Talleres Palermo

The cowork is a part of a digital nomad cafe / hub. They host events and meetups every week, and generally have a vibrant community of people who come to hang out there. The co-work itself looks a bit industrial and just an upper room with tables, but the terrace is actually very pretty and functions as a lovely place to work when weather permits.

Nomad Friendly Cafe's

Un Lugar Café,

A cafe that publicly states that it is coworking friendly, so it removes the inconveniences of over staying. Other than that the internet, food, and staff are all great.

LUWAK

A friendly and modern place with delicious food, and also vegan for a change! Very hip place. Good WiFi. Great coffee and service.

The Couple

Many people come to work from here for some reason. It is great of course but not a big space to accommodate many laptop dwellers. Anyway, we recommend checking it out.

From the outside they look just like any other cheese balls or similar dish, but Croquettes are an amazing snack that each place serves a bit differently, but always tasty.
Restaurants and Bars

Malasaña

Colorful place, famous for its good cocktails and young crowd. We had a lovely dinner there with friends and cannot recommend it more.

Bodegón Pachichi

Local dishes, served brilliantly, in a cozy and authentic atmosphere. No wonder it is always full. If you come too late, you might be disappointed that they are out of capacity, so plan a head.

Chiwawa Cantina La Cícer

It's not a Tex-Mex (American Mexican) restaurant, but also not a 100% authentic Mexican restaurant. The middle ground in between gives it the extra crunch that makes it so delicious! Do not miss this place!

Don Don Ramen

Got recommended by our host, and wow it was a good recommendation. Japanese restaurant with flagship Ramen soups that come in many different types and flavours. If you are a Ramen lover, you cannot go wrong with this place.

Restaurante Samurai II

An all you can eat place. Yes you hear right. Pay around 20 Euros and just keep ordering from a rich menu until you are stuffed. Value for money 10 / 10

Llévame al huerto

If you are after some vegan delicacies make sure to visit this place. Located on a quiet and European looking boulevard, with fine dining vegan food that will taste good even for the most extreme carnivores.
