Chiang Mai

A City with A Temple Per Person

Chiang Mai from Above

Overview
The second-largest city in Thailand, which strangely enough doesn’t feel like a big city, especially if you are in the old city center which feels like nothing more than a busy village. But once you go further you can understand that this city feels like that because it is widely spread and not highly built.

With time it became one of the Digital Nomads capitals, and for good reason. The prices are often dirt cheap, it is full of other like-minded nomads and ex-pats, the parties and bars can make an awesome night out, and the natural scenery is no longer than a 10-minute drive away. It’s definitely an interesting balance between the cityside and the countryside.
Co-Works
In regards to Cowork spaces, Chiang Mai really shines, which also points out the demand for these kinds of services and its growing community. The ones we tried were top-notch, their attention to detail a very apparent priority.

Alt_ChiangMai

Destined to provide co-living alongside their great coworking space which is home to many remote workers that use it regularly. The space is quite large and features a cute garden to eat your lunch or do a 15 meditation break. The prices might be just a bit higher than its competition, but the effort they put into the place is prevalent.

Punspace Wiang Kaew

A workspace that exudes "zen." The outdoor space is a calm space with beautiful trees and jazz music, while indoors is a quiet area with well scattered professional tables and chairs. A small lounge zone with bean bags and a guitar is also featured and surprisingly, we witnessed people taking a nap there at almost any given moment. In front of the Punspace, there is a very nice and minimalist restaurant to keep your hunger away with excellent prices.

Yellow Coworking Space

The new kid in town but also the most occupied. Although it is clearly a popular place, we honestly found it to be too busy and hectic rather than calm and easygoing. That being said, the facilities are top of the line. With a Youtube room, photography setups, and a lovely garden, it is not a secret why people flock here.

Nomad Friendly Cafe's

Secret Cafe in Town

A tiny cafe, but so cozy and warm that you will feel like you're working from your grandmother's couch. We never saw it completely packed, so you should be able to stick around for a few hours. And the food is incredible!

Akha Ama Coffee

A coffee place that knows how to deal with coffee. You would expect it from every coffee shop but unfortunately this is not the case. The branch is in old town and has an industrial design with plenty of space, but outlets here can be scarce.

Ombra Cafe

Spacious place with long tables and great coffee. It is quite popular among remote workers due to the large space, comfortable facilities (like WiFi and seats) and being relaxed and not too busy.

Artisan Cafe

The Artisan Cafe is located on the other side of Chiang Mai, and has a beautiful design. Nothing too ornate, but it has a great vibe and a friendly staff. This is an ideal place you can feel comfortable at opening your laptop and getting some work done.

Gravity Cafe’ & Bistro

Maybe it's not enough to allow you to spend a whole day there, but it is perfect for a calm morning, and a great opportunity to try their excellent breakfast menu. Wi-Fi is also available.

SukiYaki. The original recipe is Japanese, but some restaurants make a Thai version of it with a variety of vegetables, egg whites, glass noodles, and any meat/tofu of your choice. Make sure to look for it in the restaurant menus in Chiang Mai.
Restaurants and Bars

Writer’s Club & Wine Bar

It's not just a name, this place actually claims to be the unofficial press club in CM where journalists and writers meet. So if you want to get away from the touristy bars and restaurants, this laid back wine bar with decent Thai food will do just fine, and you might even have the opportunity to connect with some interesting locals.

The UN Irish Pub

Full with popular UK dishes on the menu, this Irish pub delivers what Irish pubs are meant to deliver. A fine beer selection, mostly foreign crowd, and sports events. Outside there is a welcoming garden if you need to relax and get back in touch with nature.

Roots Rock Reggae Bar

A bustling and lively place for all reggae, ska, or rock lovers who appreciate some live music. This bar has live music every night, keeping the young crowd out and happy throughout the night. The drinks are basic and not pretentious and the staff is friendly and talkative.

Northgate Jazz Co-op

Get there early if you want a good spot for listening to some modern jazz talent from all around the world. It's also very popular with the locals; Tuesday night is dedicated to open freestyle jams so you can embarrass yourself easily while still having a good time. The drinks are reasonably priced, and the venue has quiet spots to relax and chat if you need a break from the music.
