Overview
When researching for a place to live in the Dominican Republic that is friendly to ex-pats and nomads, this place came up so many times that we couldn’t overlook checking it out. And we couldn’t ask for a better area!

At first glance, an outsider may think that this city is a “little Germany” because many ex-pats have emigrated here from Germany. So much so, that their most popular beer in the supermarket is a German beer! But generally, it is just a super nice, one-road village, that is also a mecca for many kite surfers that come to use the winds which are very strong in this town.

Even if you are not into kitesurfing, or into learning how to kite, this town has many things to offer such as calm beaches, beach bars, hotels, parties, and a lovely community.
Co-Works
To this day, there isn’t a proper co-working place in Cabarete. Maybe it is still too small, or the pandemic shut down all of them, but if you plan to work from here we would suggest equipping yourself with an apartment with a decent internet connection.
Nomad Friendly Cafe's

Vagamundo Coffee and Waffles

With the lack of co-working spaces, this place has become a go-to place for people who want to open their laptops for a few hours. It probably has that allure because it has such great food and a relaxed vibe which makes it ideal to work from.

Friend's

A colorful coffee shop and restaurant with many plants and natural beauty. People come to work here as there is a lot of space and spots to blend into, as well as good internet in most parts of the restaurant. Many vegan options too!

Named after the national flag, this traditional dish is a whole meal that has all you need. The red color is for the beans, the white for the rice, and the blue, well, maybe for the meat.
Restaurants and Bars

Lax ojo

A chilled and nice beach restaurant during the day and a buzzy beach bar at night. They have occasional hamburger promotions with great deals, and mainly standard cocktails and drinks to choose from.

Yalla

Tapas, on the beach! We love both, so the choice was easy. They also feature Mediterranean food, which we love as well. Ask the waiter what is the new dish of the day is, they're always happy to promote new menu items.

Kite Club Café

It's where all the kite surfers go, and doubles as a party venue! We typically go for the social part of visiting this spot. Everybody is friendly and talkative, which makes it a good experience and a great place to meet new people.

Gorditos Fresh Mex

A Texmex (American style Mexican food) restaurant that everyone goes to in order to try their flag dish - fish tacos. So you can rest assured, we absolutely recommend their tacos! You can tell us how the other food tastes, as we didn't have the discipline not to take the taco over and over again.
